Functions and responsibilities

The function of the Parole Board is to manage the appropriate release of prisoners on parole. The Parole Board aims to make decisions that are rigorous, fair and timely.

The responsibilities of the Parole Board are to:

a) fulfil statutory obligations under the Parole Act;

b) make independent and appropriate decisions about the release of prisoners on parole;

c) set appropriate parole conditions for each prisoner who is released on parole;

d) make appropriate decisions about revoking a parolee’s grant of parole for breaches of parole conditions or for further offending;

e) ensure prisoners are properly prepared to reintegrate into the community; and

f) monitor the behaviour of parolees while on parole.
